Cute Mexican Men

Arrived in Real de Catorce, my prayers answered. Like no place I've ever seen. The movie The Mexican was filmed in this town. I get inspiration sometimes of where to travel to from movies. Both Actor Brad Pitt and I think that Real de Catorce is a trip. (Saw an interview of him commenting on his visit here.) A step back in time to a quieter, simpler life.

There is one main way into town and it's through a one-way tunnel thru a mountain just wide enough for one vehicle. It's hard to describe how exciting it was to be going through this dimly lit passageway into the unknown. Once you get through the tunnel into town, you are stepping back in time. I got the nicest room yet for $15 and wander around the streets of multi shaped round stones enjoying the tranquility and peace of this small town. Very cool vibe, zero rat race. Great sunset in the mountains to finish out the day

Day One - What can I say, a fantastic day. Rode horseback up a mountain to a ghost town and made arrangements with a guide to go higher still the next day to find flowers $40. Just after I returned back to town from horseback riding, a cute Mexican woman invited me to go again by hired jeep with her friends. I said no, I can be really dumb sometimes. I really admired her for her braveness and her kindness to approach an obvious foreigner and invite me to join them. So a few seconds later I said sure why not? I fell for Perla almost immediately, looking into her beautiful eyes atop the mountain. Her friends were so sweet and fun loving and remember there is a language barrier. Luckily a friend of hers, Sandra, spoke English. I asked for Perla’s number and e-mail address. I hoped I could see her again

Didn’t do much that night after Perla and her friends left. Real de Catorce is a magical, wonderful place. Is there a smaller, nicer, more tranquil place in Mexico? I couldn't stop thinking about Perla and what a sweet, beautiful woman she was. I emailed her and some friends back home. Enjoyed a nice sit down meal and met a nice German couple that loved Real de Catorce too.

Day Two was the greatest. I went on a five hour horseback riding adventure. Just me and the guide and two horses to search for flowers. We rode along a beautiful path into the mountains. Looking down very steep ridges defying death on a horses that knew their stuff. (See horse riding in real de Catorce video below)

After returning, I met a very friendly Mexican family from Monterey staying at my hotel. They may have been Mexican hillbillies because they were cooking in the street right in front of the hotel. I was really amazed how they had little powerful fires that heated the giant wok shaped pans that they were cooking in. They shared their dinner with me as if I were part of the family. Unforgettable kindness and hospitality. This is the main reason to fall in love with Mexico. The great people. I left town the next day very satisfied

Horseback riding.  My life was in that horse's hoofs.
